Chalmers Street is a premium choice of student accommodation in Edinburgh. Chalmers Street Halls of Residence are close to the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art. The flats are popular with students due to their proximity to the University and are the ideal place for students to study and live. The flats offer a wide range of Non-Ensuite, Ensuite and Studio room types to cater to students' diversity. The neighbourhood is very convenient, with bus stops, Sainsbury's Local, restaurants, pubs and convenience stores within a five-minute walk.

Chalmers Street student accommodation opened for bookings in 2015 and has a total of 251 beds, including Non-Ensuite(Shared bathroom, Shared kitchen), Ensuite(Private bathroom, Shared kitchen) and Studio(Private bathroom, Private kitchen). The flats are fully furnished and equipped with study rooms, laundry, standard room, games room, bike storage, etc. The rooms are basic and equipped with desks and tables. The rooms are equipped with desks, chairs, bedside tables, bookcases, wardrobes, bulletin boards, etc. There is also storage under the beds, so the rooms have plenty of space. The kitchen has a refrigerator, oven, microwave, hoover, and more.

 

Chalmers Street student accommodation offers free Wi-Fi covering all rooms and common areas. The rent paid includes water, electricity, internet and financial insurance. Printing services are also available for students' convenience. The housekeeping staff regularly cleans the communal areas.

 

Location and What's Hot?

Chalmers Street student accommodation is situated next to the large Meadows Park in the Marchmont area, with the local Sainsbury's Supermarket just a short walk away. Plenty of cafes, sandwich shops and bookshops are nearby to provide students with physical and mental sustenance. The Grassmarket, which overlooks Edinburgh Castle, is about an 8-minute walk away. There is a gym and sports equipment on campus, but of course, there is also the option of going to the gym at Meadows to meet more people. The residence halls are also very close to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile Walk, about a ten-minute walk away, making it an excellent place for students to spend their leisure time.

 

Transport

Chalmers Street student accommodation is within walking distance of the Edinburgh Napier Merchiston Campus, a 4-minute walk to the Edinburgh College of Art and a 6-minute walk to the University of Edinburgh's GS Campus. The dormitory is located in the centre of Edinburgh, a 3-minute walk to The Royal Mile. The Royal Mile is a 3-minute walk, and the Lauriston Building is a 5-minute walk away. Buses 23 and 27 will take you to Princes Street and the train station in the city centre.

 

Security & Services

Chalmers Street student accommodation is fitted with a 24-hour electronic access control system with video surveillance. External visitors need to pass through multiple electronic gates to enter the hostel. After moving in, any problems with the hostel facilities can be reported directly to the hostel's front desk, and the hostel will repair them for you the first time.

Cancellation Policy

No Visa No Pay

No Visa No Pay (NVNP)
a.If the student who has completed their booking has their visa application rejected, the student can provide evidence of the refusal and the booking will get cancelled with no liability.
b.For the evidence at 7(a) above to be valid it must:
i.be submitted within 7 days of the student receiving it;
ii.include the student's name and the date at which it was received;
iii.be received prior to 31 August of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in August or September;
iv.be received prior to 15 January of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in December or January.
c.Students can only cancel under 7(a) above, and under the NVNP policy, if they have applied for a visa and can evidence this. Students who haven't got a visa because they haven't applied for one are not eligible for the NVNP cancellation policy.

No Place No Pay

No Place No Pay (NPNP)
a.If the student who has completed their booking for a room is not accepted at a university in the city where they have booked a room with us, the student is able to cancel their room outside of the cooling-off period without the need for a replacement tenant provided they are able to provide evidence that they have not met the requirements for their offer or have been rejected by the university for some other reason.
b.For the evidence at 6(a) above to be valid it must:
i.be submitted within 7 days of the student receiving it;
ii.include the student's name and the date at which it was received;
iii.be received prior to 31 August of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in August or September;
iv.be received prior to 15 January of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in December or January.
c.We reserve the right to check with the university if the evidence is genuine or fake. Providing fake / photoshopped documents is forgery and is an offense punishable by law in the UK.

Refund Guarantees Time Limit

3 days to accept the offer+ 7 days cooling-off period
Once a booking is processed, the student has 3 days to accept the offer. It means for the student and the guarantor to accept the contract and pay the £250 advance rent payment. (For bookings in England only. No Advance Rent Payment is required for bookings in Scotland).

Once these steps are done, the booking is completed.
If one of the step is not completed within these 3 days, the offer will expire.
If the student still wants a room, we can re-process a booking, but we cannot guarantee that the same room or the same price will be available.
Once the booking is completed, the student has another 7 days to change their mind and cancel their booking without any reasons. This is called the cooling-off period.

Making a Booking
Once a booking is processed, the student has 3 days to accept the offer. It means for the student and the guarantor to accept the contract and pay the £250 advance rent payment. (For bookings in England only. No Advance Rent Payment is required for bookings in Scotland).

International cancellation provisions
These additional cancellation provisions apply for any individual making a booking outside of the United Kingdom.
1.Cooling Off Period – the provisions for the Cooling Off Period set out in the main Cancellation Policy shall apply;
2.After the Cooling Off Period - Once the Cooling Off Period has expired the Tenant remains liable for the rent for the whole length of the tenancy unless they want to cancel with one of these 3 conditions:
-No Place No Pay: the provisions for No Place No Pay set out in the main Cancellation Policy shall apply, save that this option shall not be available after the 31st August in the year the Tenancy Start Date is due to occur.
-No Visa No Pay:if the student doesn’t get their visa to come and study in the UK, the student must send us the visa application rejection letter within 7 days of receiving it. On receipt of the required documentation, it will be verified and, provided we are satisfied, we will cancel your Tenancy Agreement and refund any deposit or advance rent paid in full. This option shall not be available after the 31st August in the year the Tenancy Start Date is due to occur.
-No ATAS certificate, No Pay: Some international students coming to the UK to study in very specific fields need to apply for an ATAS certificate. (Academic Technology Approval Scheme). If a student’s ATAS certificate application is rejected the student must send us the ATAS certificate application rejection letter within 7 days of receiving it. On receipt of the required documentation, it will be verified and, provided we are satisfied, we will cancel your Tenancy Agreement and refund any deposit or advance rent paid in full. This option shall not be available after the 31st August in the year the Tenancy Start Date is due to occur.
The cancellation requests along with the proof documents must be sent by the student, from the email address they have registered their account with Unite Students and must be sent to internationalcancellations@unitestudents.com.
If an agent is involved the evidence must be sent to the agent and then forwarded on to internationalcancellations@unitestudents.com.
3. Replacement Tenants - the provisions for the Cooling Off Period set out in the main Cancellation Policy shall apply. Please note the point that Unite Students is under no obligation to enter into a Tenancy Agreement with any replacement Tenant that is suggested under this provision.
Passed the 31st August, the No Place No Pay and No Visa No Pay do not apply.
The student remains liable for the rent unless they find a replacement Tenant.
