Weir House is a four-storey building housing 309 residents and is made up of four wings – William Weir, James Hutchinson, Andrea Brander and Te Whānau. It is run by a Head of Hall, supported by a Hall Administrator, a Night Manager, a Student Support Coordinator and a Residential Life Manager. Weir House also has eight Residential Advisors (RAs) who are senior students as well as employees of Victoria University of Wellington.

Weir House accommodates over 300 first year students in a vibrant community which has a strong academic focus. The four houses are minutes from Kelburn Campus.

Weir House has a fantastic reputation as a place where you will have the opportunity to make life-long friends, to excel in your academic pursuits and develop leadership skills. We are proud of our tradition as a highly sought-after hall and it’s our constant mission to evolve to meet the needs of our student residents.

The communal dining room serves three meals a day. Packed lunches and late dinners can be arranged, and vegetarian options and other dietary needs are catered for. There are kitchenettes on each floor.
Fees include electricity, heating, internet, and water charges.
There are no telephones in the bedrooms, although there are communal telephones in each building.
Wireless or ethernet access to the internet is available in all bedrooms and students can log in using their university account. A computer room with printer is also on-site. Printing is pre-paid via the University Library.
Weir House is a 5-minute walk from the Kelburn campus and a 10-minute walk from the city. It is a 15-minute walk from Te Aro campus, and a 20-minute walk from the Pipitea campus.
Residential advisers are on-site to help students navigate through the challenges of university study and communal living. Study groups can be arranged and a full programme of fun events is provided to encourage a balanced lifestyle.
There are TV lounges, two purpose-built music practice rooms, a dedicated design and architecture space (including light boxes and tools), two study rooms, a tutorial room, and other communal areas and lounges. Table tennis, foosball, a snooker table, and a basketball hoop are provided.
Laundry facilities are coin operated.
There are no car parking facilities at Weir House for students, but bike storage is available.
Amenities for students with disabilities include wide doors, two lifts, and showering areas.
