University Hall houses provide comfortable accommodation for international students studying at Victoria. Find out our rates and how to apply.
We have more than forty fully furnished homes available—all located close to the Kelburn campus. Depending on the building, each house accommodates three to ten people in single rooms and some twin share rooms. Our houses are self-catered and are for students who are not in their first year of study.
Furniture and equipment Communal areas will have furniture, white ware, pots and pans, and crockery and cutlery.
Your bedroom will also be fully furnished and have:
single bed and mattress mattress protector bed sheets and covers study desk and chair wardrobe pin board bookshelf heater mirror rubbish bin
You’re not permitted to bring any furniture of your own. Refrigerators in your bedroom, loud speakers and strobe lighting are also not permitted. At the end of your stay, you are responsible for removing your belongings from your room. If you don’t do this, you’ll be charged for their removal, and they may be disposed of at the Residential Life Manager's discretion.
You are permitted to shift the supplied bedroom furniture around in your room, provided that no fixtures or fittings are unscrewed or taken down, and you return the furniture to its original position before you leave. You may not place communal furniture in your room.
Things you'll need to supply:
bath towels bath mats tea towels cleaning products rubbish bags Cleaning and tidying Your house You and your housemates are responsible for cleaning your own house. Kiwi Mates and Residential Advisors (RAs) can help your house to set up a cleaning roster to make this easier. University Hall will make sure your house is cleaned before you move in.
You’ll need to buy your own cleaning products but the Hall will provide additional vacuum bags, mop heads and light bulbs as needed.
Your outdoor area University Hall staff are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of gardens, lawns and pathways.
You and your housemates are responsible for emptying all mail from letter boxes and keeping the surrounding grounds free of litter.
Rubbish and recycling You and your housemates are responsible for taking your rubbish out. Rubbish is collected outside your house every week by the Wellington City Council.
You must put your rubbish out correctly or it won’t be collected. You must use the yellow Wellington City Council bags, which you can buy from any Wellington supermarket or local store or the hall office. The council won’t collect black bags, boxed rubbish or appliances etc.
Your house will have city council recycling bins or bags that you need to put out on the same day as your rubbish.
Internet and phone There is a telephone in your house and you can make local calls on it for free. Internet is included in your room rate.
Car parking Street parking around University Hall houses is in high demand. You’ll need to apply for a resident’s parking permit through Wellington City Council parking services.
Smoking not permitted Hall houses and grounds are smoke-free and vape-free environments. You cannot smoke or vape in any area of University Hall, including foyers, decks and entrance ways. If you are found smoking in any University Hall property, smoking and vaping materials will be confiscated and disciplinary measures will follow.
