What documents should I bring when checking in for a rental in Ottawa?

Please bring your passport, I-20, payment receipts, credit cards, checks, etc. Please note that the apartment does not take cash.

When I rent an apartment in Ottawa, can I get out of the lease at any time after signing it?

Generally speaking, once a lease is signed, it is effective immediately and cannot be terminated early by either party to the lease. Under Canada law, if a tenant signs a long-term lease, they are responsible for the rent for the entire term of the lease, and the landlord has the right to require the tenant to pay all the rent even if they move out.

Can I come to Ottawa and see the apartment before I decide to sign?

Yes, we encourage students to see the apartment in person before deciding to sign up, so they can get a more direct feel for the apartment. However, we have to admit that many students want to move in right away when they arrive in the Canada. Also, the closer to the start of the school year, the higher the price and the fewer good apartments there are. Therefore, students should decide when to sign up according to their actual situation.
