British food has always been known as a desert, and international students’ Chinese stomachs have raised their protest flags when the dish of the day turns out to be fish and chips. In today’s highly internationalised world, Chinese food has spread to every corner of the world. Bristol is no exception, so let’s look at some of the best Chinese restaurants in Bristol today.
Nice Spice
Putting Nice Spice first is purely from the blogger’s selfishness, only allowing students to come to Bristol after eating his BBQ pork! The shop mainly serves BBQ pork and some typical Cantonese dishes in fast food restaurants; the portions are sufficient, and the flavour is correct; the only drawback is that there are too many queues. Before meal time, go back to line up for half an hour or so to be able to take it back to the flat to eat. If you want to find a place to sit down and eat, it is recommended to avoid the peak period. Note: Nice Spice only accepts cash, and they don’t have toilets. However, if you go to the Chill Tea next door and say you eat at Nice Spice, they will let you use the toilet.

Mayflower Chinese Restaurant
Mayflower is one of the more common names used in Chinese restaurants abroad. It is located in the centre of Bristol at the Grand Circus, with a menu that mainly includes Cantonese and some Szechuan dishes. The atmosphere and décor at Mayflower is a classic Cantonese restaurant look and feel. The staff are amiable and helpful with birthday surprises. This restaurant has a very extensive and authentic menu. It is one of the most highly attended restaurants, with dine-in, packaged and takeaway orders available, making it a late-night eatery for many international students.

If you’re looking for more authentic Chinese food, try Beijing Cooking Pot, where the staff are very welcoming and will make you feel right at home. Beijing Cooking Pot is a restaurant that focuses on casseroles, which is more suited to students who prefer lighter bites and soups. The location is close to the University of Bristol, so order a casserole in the winter, and you’ll be warmed up afterwards.

Wong’s Restaurant
Wong’s Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant known for its ambience, with a style that is very much in line with international students’ first impressions of Chinese restaurants abroad, and a decor rich in Chinese elements. A spacious and elegant environment with a collection of dishes from all over the world, Wong’s Restaurant’s price is higher than other similar restaurants, and will also charge a 10% tip; the overall taste is not a very prominent point, but suitable for important occasions as a celebration or feast for essential guests.

Your Kitchen
Your Kitchen is the number one Sichuan restaurant in Bristol in my heart! It offers a wide range of dishes and flavours that I miss from my hometown. Your Kitchen is slightly more expensive than its counterparts. Still, the flavour of the food, the speed of the food, the service attitude and the environment of the restaurant are higher than those of similar restaurants. It can be a good choice for roommates’ dinners and daily dates.
