Many UK students like to go on holiday to Europe, unaware that there are wonderful UK islands. Today, we will look at some of the best islands in UK for a holiday. Summer is approaching, and it’s the most sunny day of the year in the UK, so it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the scenery.

Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye is the largest and most northerly island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. And you can see it on the British isle map.

The name is derived from the ancient Gaelic word for ‘hidden in the clouds‘, hence its name as the island closest to the sky. It is an island cut off from the land, with rolling hills and scattered lakes.

The Isle of Skye can be explored around the largest town of Portree, where the most photographed places to visit are the colourful houses by the harbour.

You can also tour the Scottish Highlands and visit the town of Nice and Loch Lomond, which surround the Sky Islands.

Old Man of Storr is located in Portree and is part of the famous Trotternish Ridge ridge on the Scottish Isle of Sky. After centuries of being washed away by the waves, the surrounding rocks have gradually crumbled. Only Old Man of Storr still stands and has become an important landmark for ancient mariners.

Alternatively, with plenty of time to spare, visitors can take a bus from Portree to Kilt Rock, the Cliffs of the Kilt, and the Fairy Pools.

Students attending schools in Scotland, such as the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow and the University of St Andrews can get here quickly, and the views of the Highlands are spectacular. Spend your holidays on this UK island will never be a wrong choice.

Isle of Wight

With 60 miles of picturesque coastline, including golden sandy beaches and white cliffs, the Isle of Wight is the most beautiful island in UK.

The Needle

The most striking landmark on the Isle of Wight is undoubtedly The Needles, a white rock jutting out of the sea in the island’s southwest corner, an iconic Isle of Wight attraction often featured on postcards. This white rock jutting out of the sea is one of the most iconic sights on the Isle of Wight and usually appears on postcards. The place is full of fairytale magic, with the rock covered in rambling wildflowers and a lighthouse standing in the distance, making for a mesmerising picture.

Alum Bay

Opposite The Needles is Alum Bay, famous for its gorgeous Triassic-coloured rocks. These coloured rocks are breathtaking in their colourful appearance in the sunlight. Near Alum Bay, visitors can collect different sand colours and witness the making of candies and glazes.

Shanklin(a town)

It is a charming beach town known for its scenic beauty and unique architectural style. Strolling through the streets of Shanklin, the unique shops and cafes and the blooming flowers in the gardens add a sense of tranquillity and warmth to Shanklin. Whether enjoying the scenery, exploring the historic buildings or just taking a stroll, Shanklin is unique in that it retains its traditional British flavour while still being unique! In addition, Shanklin’s sand is the finest and softest on the island! No wonder many people choose the Isle of Wight as a holiday island in the UK.

Osborne House

Osborne House, an unmissable landmark on the Isle of Wight, offers visitors a stunning journey back in time. Nestled in East Cowes, the estate was known as Queen Victoria‘s favourite place to spend her summer days, and with its chic and beautiful interiors and the aroma of history around every corner, Osborne House is an exquisite place to savour. As one of the most popular islands of the UK, The Queen and her husband have spent countless cosy and enjoyable hours here. From tours of the house to walks around the extensive gardens, you can soak up the day’s history.

Eilean Shona

If taking a wonder island holidays in the UK, Eilean Shona can be one satisfying answer. This English island is the legendary “Peter Pan’s Neverland.” When Barrie turned Peter Pan into a film script, he stayed at Eilean Shona House on the island, which is inhabited by all kinds of creatures, from mountains to wetlands and bogs. The location is also easy to find, just off the Loch Moidart inlet.

Although it’s a private island, the owner is willing to recruit tourists. To help people from all over the world get to know the place better, Eilean Shona has its own website, which is professionally done, where you can rent a small cottage or the grand Eilean Shona House, and where the island’s cuisine includes seasonal food and plump oysters.

Bailiwick of Jersey

Jersey is a British Crown Dependency located off the Normandy Peninsula, about 20 kilometres from France, and is one of the largest and most populous islands in UK. Due to its border with France, the majority of the island’s inhabitants use French as their mother tongue.

The main starting point for exploring Jersey is St Helier. It has a busy harbour, lively streets and beaches and hills for walking.

Head west along the azure northern coastline to reach Gorey Harbour & Castle. Stand atop the ancient and elegant 13th century castle and take in the magnificent views across Gorey Harbour.

Further south is the Corbiere Lighthouse, a white lighthouse standing in the middle of the deep blue sea, surrounded by treacherous reefs and cliffs with waves lapping at the reefs.

Finish up on the west coast at Grève de Lecq, with its excellent sandy beaches for an afternoon of frolicking.

Lundy Island

Lundy Island in Bristol has a unique flora and fauna and is the UK’s first statutory marine nature reserve.

The west side of Lundy Island is characterised by cliffs and booming waves, so if you’re looking for some peace and want to go for a trek, head to the east side of Lundy Island, whether you like to climb mountains or just take a stroll, Lundy Island has it all.

Adding to the points, many cute little creatures on Lundy Island, including puffins(a seabird) in their little orange boots, modelled on the budding Prog from Star Wars. There is also horse riding and scuba diving on the island.

As a Day Trip, Lundy Island is an excellent choice for a convenient and fulfilling day out.

Anglesey

Located off the northwest coast of England, Anglesey is also known as Môn Mam Cymru, meaning Mother of Wales. Anglesey is a veritable lover’s paradise; there is no better place for couples to start a new life than here. Prince William and Kate did not move directly into Buckingham Palace after their wedding but decided to enjoy the sweet “world of two” here.

Romantic English Island for Couples

There are two Valentine’s Days, and in addition to 14 February, 25 January is the local Valentine’s Day. Saint Dwynwen, the patron saint of Welsh couples, once lived in a church on the island, and later, Welsh couples celebrated the 25th of January in her honour, thus continuing to be another Valentine’s Day on the island.

Great place for outdoor lovers

It is also an ideal destination for walkers, with the Anglesey Coastal Path spanning 125 miles along the coastline, 95 per cent of which is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. In addition to hiking, some sections of the trail are suitable for cycling and horseback riding. The scenery is beautiful and varied, with farmland, coastal heather, dunes, salt marshes, and cliffs.

Bangor University students will be familiar with the area of Anglesey, which is just a 24-minute drive from the campus and less than an hour by bus. It’s a great place to go for the weekend.

  • Isle of Skye
  • Isle of Wight

  • Lundy Island
  • Anglesey

June-August: June-August is summer in the UK, during which time there are most sunny days, while the rest of the year is mostly cloudy and rainy, and the lack of blue skies and white clouds makes the scenery less beautiful.

What’s special about Sky Island is its

  • vast geographical area
  • spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean
  • the lush green meadows and sheep that fill the sky

Given that it’s a private island, you won’t be bothered by many tourists and you’re free to enjoy everything on the island, including camping, cooking your own food, fishing, hiking, swimming and more.

Yes, driving is the best way to visit the Isle of Skye. Public transport on the island is not very accessible, so if you don’t know how to drive or don’t have a UK driving licence, another good option is to sign up for a tour. If you don’t like crowded tours, there are smaller tours to visit the Sky Islands here too.
