Every day in Manchester was enriching. Running around the different college buildings and waiting for buses on Oxford Street. Time flowed like a river, and the day passed by as we walked. Why don’t you join me and see if this day in University of Manchester is similar to yours?
8:00AM
Early morning sun
Woke up to a warm Manchester sunshine, a sunny day that I haven’t seen in a while. Still wanted to stay in bed and laze around in the sun, but remembered my 9am class and had to get up in a hurry.Freshened up and headed out for a new day.
Brushed my teeth, washed my face and headed out to greet the day. How can you go without a cup of coffee in the morning? Manchester’s coffee is all about familiar brands. Caffè Nero and Starbucks are my go-to’s, and neither disappoints. A piping hot cup of coffee to take along with the heat to class.
9:00AM
Crazy Lecture and Notes
Classes at 9 a.m. are ever so hard to get through. Before the coffee had time to dispel my tiredness, I had to search for the key points in the teacher’s frantic pace of speech and make notes on the handouts. It’s not my first time in this plausible state of confusion. I can’t help but regret that I didn’t study a bit in advance; otherwise, I could have understood better.
Chatting with my friends between classes, I realised I wasn’t the only one who needed help understanding the lecture. Talking about yesterday’s new things and TV drama after class is my best way to relax in the morning. But then it’s time for the next lesson, and the sophomore semester has become even more stressful for me, always trying to listen in class but failing to live up to expectations.
11:30AM
I Love Food
Finally, a pleasant lunch time. With the torture of intense studying every day, only food can soothe my soul. Restaurants in Manchester have their own specialities; you can find Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Western food and so on. Don’t worry about the food; just be careful with your wallet!
Of course, you have to cook at home when your wallet is empty. Cooking is a very satisfying thing to do when I’m away from home. Manchester’s supermarkets cater for a wide range of needs; Tesco has fresh ingredients, Morrisons has affordable food, and there are also Asian supermarkets to cater for your taste of home! Turning your ingredients into a delicious meal is one of the world’s great pleasures. But there will be times when I fail to cook, and looking at the dark dishes in front of me, I can only continue to improve my cooking skills!
2:00PM
Afternoon Class
Afternoon classes are small tutorials with only around a dozen students, and small class is a great exercise because the tutor will ask students to presnet their learning situation, not like in a large class with hundreds of students. However, reviewing before the class is necessary for the lesson, giving you time to get your ideas together and share them with your classmates and teachers. If you forget to prepare ahead of time one day, you can only be silent in the tutorial.
3:30PM
Shopping Time
Manchester city centre isn’t huge, but it has everything. Whether it’s clothes, cosmetics, household goods or food, you can find it all! Shopping is a great way to relax after classes. Check out the latest shoes and make-up, and resist buying them all! I always hit up Urban Outfitters and Boots and the affordable supermarket Aldi, which meets my usual needs. An afternoon in the city centre will pass, and I feel like I’ve come for nothing if I don’t pick up a few things!
In addition to the city centre, Manchester has a few big shopping malls, but the distance is a bit far so I can only go shopping at the weekend. At the same time, with many small shops, the north quarter is also a choice for shopping slowly.
7:00PM
Physical Exercise
The idea of going to the gym came out after an average day of classes because I had minimal opportunity to exercise. Luckily, the student accommodation I live in Manchester has its gym and other communal facilities, so I don’t have to pay extra for a membership. And with staff on hand every day for cleaning and maintenance, the experience was great.Even though I haven’t started out for long, I always feel satisfied. Sweating with friends and exercising together gives one a temporary break from studying. It’s like surfacing from a dive and breathing fresh oxygen. I don’t know if it will stick, but I’m glad I chose to start.

Good night, World
One of my favourite things about Manchester before nighttime is its late sunset. Although such beauty is only available on sunny days, it doesn’t dampen the anticipation I feel every time.
The night rushed by in my previewing and reviewing, leaving only the anticipation for tomorrow. Today is also a full day without leaving any regrets. Such a day for me is the most satisfactory.
