Business is one of the most popular subjects at the University of Edinburgh. The University of Edinburgh’s Business School is triple accredited by AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA and is ranked 8th in the UK and 43rd in the world in the QS Business School Rankings. It is ranked 8th in the UK and 43rd in the world in the QS Business School Rankings. It has several specialisms, such as Accounting and Finance, Management and Marketing. Applications are generally required to Band B: only students from List universities are admitted, with a minimum average score of 80%.

Accounting and Finance

Accounting and Finance is ranked 8th in the UK universities, with a high degree of difficulty in acceptance and an acceptance rate of 5.1% for Chinese students in 2022. The programme is highly specialised and suitable for applicants with a background in econometrics. Graduates can work as equity analysts, portfolio managers and so on.

The Data Science programme requires a background in data-related disciplines such as mathematics, computing, information, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, electrical engineering, linguistics, mathematics, philosophy, physics or psychology. The curriculum develops data processing and modelling skills through theoretical and practical courses such as machine learning, deep learning, and data analytics. Graduates can become data analysts, data engineers, etc.

The School of Education is ranked 7th in the UK, with a 25% acceptance rate for Chinese students. The programme is divided into five categories, covering educational theory and practice, enabling students to think deeply about the nature of education. Graduates can work as special education teachers, researchers, and policymakers.
Applicants must have a background in education, and Chinese students must have a Band C (from a school on the priority list with a score of 80 or above or from an accredited school with a score of 85 or above).

TESOL

The TESOL programme is ranked 4th in the UK for its ability to develop theoretical and practical skills in teaching and learning English. A university TESOL major generally needs to combine pedagogy and linguistics; as the second-ranked linguistic Edinburgh, TESOL is naturally alright. Chinese student-friendly, with a high acceptance rate of 37.9% for Chinese students! This Master’s degree is suitable for both working teachers with experience teaching English as a foreign language and newcomers to the field of education. Graduates can become English teachers in language schools or pursue careers in education-related fields such as teacher training, curriculum design, textbook development, and language analysis. Law School

The University of Edinburgh’s School of Law has a long history and is ranked in the top 30 in the world and fifth in the UK in the QS Law Rankings. Most master’s programmes at Edinburgh Law School require applicants to have at least a Band C academic background. Still, the requirements for the three specialisms of Business Law, Corporate Law and Intellectual Property Law are Band B! Students can choose the right specialisation according to their interests and future directions. These master’s programmes cover both theoretical legal knowledge and practical experience, enabling students to enter legal practice or related fields upon graduation.

Business Law

The Business Law programme is ranked 3rd in the UK and covers topics such as company law, European contract law, insolvency law, EU competition law and principles of corporate finance. The number of students admitted last year totalled 67. Graduates can work as legal counsellors and lawyers. Applicants must provide a law-related background, relevant work experience, and professional qualifications belonging to Band B, which will be a plus. 

International Economic Law

International Economic Law is a systematic and comprehensive study of the institutions, rules and principles that underpin the current international economic order. The highly practical program will help students build a career in international trade law firms or multinational corporations. Graduates can work as trade law advisors to companies or as international economic lawyers. Applicants need to provide a law-related background and belong to Band C. Last year, there were 86 admissions, which is one of the highest numbers of admissions in several law programmes.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees at the University of Edinburgh vary according to different majors, with liberal arts majors having lower tuition fees and science, technology and medicine majors having higher tuition fees. Generally speaking, the tuition fee for business and STEM majors is 22,000-25,000 pounds per year, which is equivalent to about 160,000-180,000 RMB. On the other hand, the tuition fee for liberal arts and law majors is lower, at £18,000-22,000/year, equivalent to RMB 130,000-160,000 yuan. Living Costs and Transport

Daily living expenses are calculated based on three meals per week, which costs about £208-217 per week, or about 1,800 RMB. Utilities cost about £50 per month, and internet expenses £20 per month. In terms of transport costs, a single ticket on the bus and metro costs around £2, while a taxi costs more, around £5-8, from your house to the city. Therefore, choosing a flat close to the city centre or the university is essential, where you can save time and unnecessary expenses during weekdays.
