The UCL Clearing 2025 provides an important opportunity for students who have not yet secured their desired place in the university application process. Each year, UCL opens up several additional degree places during the UCAS Clearing Stage, designed to help students who have not been able to secure an offer through the normal application process. The Clearing UCL will open on 5 July 2025. The University Clearing Stage is not only a reassessment process for applicants but also provides you with the possibility to re-map your future academic path. This process usually takes place after the release of A-Level results and allows you to apply for vacant courses offered by UCL based on your latest results.
What is UCL Clearing?
UCL Clearing refers to the ‘clearing’ phase of University College London for 2025 entry. This term usually takes place in the summer of each year and is primarily used to deal with unfilled vacancies. For students who were not offered a place in the regular application process, University Clearing provides an opportunity to apply for programmes that still have vacancies.
At the Clearing stage, you can check which courses are still open for application via the UCL website or the UCAS system and apply based on your grades and interests. Clearing UCL is open not only to students who were not able to secure a place on their first application but also to those who have already secured a place at another university but want to transfer to UCL.
The process requires students to prepare the necessary application materials and related documents promptly and to complete the application within the specified timeframe.
Does UCL do Clearing in 2025?
University College London (UCL) is taking part in the UCAS Clearing 2025. The number of programmes and places offered by UCL at the top-up stage is likely to be very limited. Typically, UCL Clearing will only accept students through the supplementary entry process for a small number of programmes, which may include certain science and humanities subjects. In addition, UCL will prioritise high-achieving applicants who have exceeded expectations at A-level.
How does UCL Clearing work?
The UCL Clearing works as follows:
Places are published: UCL publishes unfilled places on courses during the Clearing stage. You can view these vacancies on the UCAS website or the official UCL website.
Eligibility: A-level results, or equivalent, are required. Generally, you can only apply for UCL Clearing University if you have not met the requirements of your original application, or if you have not been offered a place at another university.
Contacting the University: Once you have established that you meet the eligibility criteria, contact UCL directly with your UCAS ID and results and UCL will consider you for a place on a case-by-case basis.
Offer: If UCL agrees to offer you a place, the university will submit your offer to UCAS and update the status of your application.
Confirm your offer: You will need to confirm your acceptance of UCL’s offer on UCAS. Once you have done this, you will have been successfully admitted to UCL through UCAS Clearing.
Process your enrolment: Once you have completed your Clearing offer, prepare for your enrolment by UCL’s requirements.

- Only phone their Clearing enquiries line if you have a specific question or need to confirm availability.
Accept Your Offer (UCAS Hub):
- If University College London tells you they’ll offer you a place (e.g., by email/call), log into UCAS Hub immediately.
- Add UCL as your Clearing choice there to make it official.
- Once UCAS Hub shows UCL’s acceptance, you’ve secured your spot!
UCL Clearing Courses for 2025
If UCL ends up with clearing places in 2025, chances are they’ll be similar to what they’ve offered before. You could find UCL Clearing courses openings in some sciences – like specific engineering or life science courses – maybe some humanities or languages, or newer interdisciplinary degrees that didn’t fill up.
Don’t hold your breath for UCL’s most popular courses like Medicine, standard Economics, or straight Computer Science to pop up in Clearing, though. Those always get snapped up in the main application round. Really, clearing at UCL usually involves courses that are either just launched, less common, or happen to have a few spare places. In the UK, many of the top universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and King’s College London (KCL) do not usually engage in Clearing. These top universities do not usually offer this service as their places are usually filled at the application stage.
