Chaucer House is an extraordinary student accommodation in Portsmouth that opened in 2018 and is able to offer 484 beds. It is only a 10-minute walk to the University of Portsmouth Guildhall campus or the city centre.

 

Each room, whether an en-suite or a studio, has been designed to the highest quality standards to create an optimal environment for student life. You can choose the en-suite room, where you share the kitchen and living room with others. You can also select studio, a study and relaxation space just for you. The student accommodation has extra large communal areas and spacious study areas to use. All-inclusive rent with no hidden costs.

 

Features:

En-suite rooms include a three-quarter size bed, personal bathroom, shared kitchen, and a study area with complete furnishings. Chaucer House provides in-house laundry facilities and Wi-Fi throughout the property to ensure a convenient stay. Furthermore, all utility bills are covered in your payment. The studios boast similar amenities but offer greater privacy with a double bed, private kitchen, and bathroom. In addition, dedicated study and social areas facilitate student socialisation.

 

Students can enjoy 24/7 access to vending machines and secure bike storage. The properties are maintained by service teams around the clock and also offer basic contents insurance. In case of emergencies, a 24/7 contact centre is available to all our residents, ensuring their safety and peace of mind.

 

Location and What's Hot?

Chaucer House is conveniently located next to the Portsmouth and Southsea railway station and just a 10-minute walk from the university. It is close to Chinese restaurants such as Golden Emperor, as well as supermarkets such as The Co-operative Food and Tesco for food and daily necessities, and chain or private coffee shops such as Costa and Starbucks. It is also easy to find ATMs.

 

Victoria Park, a 5-minute walk from Chaucer House, is ideal for exercise or walking, and there is a large shopping centre, Cascades Shopping Centre, as well as several stores and outlets in the city centre. In the city centre, there are cinemas such as Big Screen. For fitness, there is a gym, PureGym, a 5-minute walk away. And Fatton Park is a 20-minute bus ride away.

 

If you want to go to Southsea, it is only 20 minutes away by bus. There are plenty of places to visit near the coast, such as Clarence Pier, Blue Reef Aquarium, D-Day Museum, Pyramids Centre and many more.

 

Transport:

The Chaucer House neighbourhood is very well connected. Civic Offices bus stop is just outside the flat. Portsmouth & South Sea train station is a 2-minute walk away. This major transport hub offers connections to exciting destinations like London, Brighton, Manchester, etc. And Fratton railway station is a 5-minute bus ride away.

Cancellation Policy

No Visa No Pay

No Visa No Pay (NVNP)
a.If the student who has completed their booking has their visa application rejected, the student can provide evidence of the refusal and the booking will get cancelled with no liability.
b.For the evidence at 7(a) above to be valid it must:
i.be submitted within 7 days of the student receiving it;
ii.include the student's name and the date at which it was received;
iii.be received prior to 31 August of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in August or September;
iv.be received prior to 15 January of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in December or January.
c.Students can only cancel under 7(a) above, and under the NVNP policy, if they have applied for a visa and can evidence this. Students who haven't got a visa because they haven't applied for one are not eligible for the NVNP cancellation policy.

No Place No Pay

No Place No Pay (NPNP)
a.If the student who has completed their booking for a room is not accepted at a university in the city where they have booked a room with us, the student is able to cancel their room outside of the cooling-off period without the need for a replacement tenant provided they are able to provide evidence that they have not met the requirements for their offer or have been rejected by the university for some other reason.
b.For the evidence at 6(a) above to be valid it must:
i.be submitted within 7 days of the student receiving it;
ii.include the student's name and the date at which it was received;
iii.be received prior to 31 August of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in August or September;
iv.be received prior to 15 January of the Academic Year for those with tenancies starting in December or January.
c.We reserve the right to check with the university if the evidence is genuine or fake. Providing fake / photoshopped documents is forgery and is an offense punishable by law in the UK.

Refund Guarantees Time Limit

3 days to accept the offer+ 7 days cooling-off period
Once a booking is processed, the student has 3 days to accept the offer. It means for the student and the guarantor to accept the contract and pay the £250 advance rent payment. (For bookings in England only. No Advance Rent Payment is required for bookings in Scotland).

Once these steps are done, the booking is completed.
If one of the step is not completed within these 3 days, the offer will expire.
If the student still wants a room, we can re-process a booking, but we cannot guarantee that the same room or the same price will be available.
Once the booking is completed, the student has another 7 days to change their mind and cancel their booking without any reasons. This is called the cooling-off period.

Details

Making a Booking
Once a booking is processed, the student has 3 days to accept the offer. It means for the student and the guarantor to accept the contract and pay the £250 advance rent payment. (For bookings in England only. No Advance Rent Payment is required for bookings in Scotland).

International cancellation provisions
These additional cancellation provisions apply for any individual making a booking outside of the United Kingdom.
1.Cooling Off Period – the provisions for the Cooling Off Period set out in the main Cancellation Policy shall apply;
2.After the Cooling Off Period - Once the Cooling Off Period has expired the Tenant remains liable for the rent for the whole length of the tenancy unless they want to cancel with one of these 3 conditions:
-No Place No Pay: the provisions for No Place No Pay set out in the main Cancellation Policy shall apply, save that this option shall not be available after the 31st August in the year the Tenancy Start Date is due to occur.
-No Visa No Pay:if the student doesn’t get their visa to come and study in the UK, the student must send us the visa application rejection letter within 7 days of receiving it. On receipt of the required documentation, it will be verified and, provided we are satisfied, we will cancel your Tenancy Agreement and refund any deposit or advance rent paid in full. This option shall not be available after the 31st August in the year the Tenancy Start Date is due to occur.
-No ATAS certificate, No Pay: Some international students coming to the UK to study in very specific fields need to apply for an ATAS certificate. (Academic Technology Approval Scheme). If a student’s ATAS certificate application is rejected the student must send us the ATAS certificate application rejection letter within 7 days of receiving it. On receipt of the required documentation, it will be verified and, provided we are satisfied, we will cancel your Tenancy Agreement and refund any deposit or advance rent paid in full. This option shall not be available after the 31st August in the year the Tenancy Start Date is due to occur.
The cancellation requests along with the proof documents must be sent by the student, from the email address they have registered their account with Unite Students and must be sent to internationalcancellations@unitestudents.com.
If an agent is involved the evidence must be sent to the agent and then forwarded on to internationalcancellations@unitestudents.com.
3. Replacement Tenants - the provisions for the Cooling Off Period set out in the main Cancellation Policy shall apply. Please note the point that Unite Students is under no obligation to enter into a Tenancy Agreement with any replacement Tenant that is suggested under this provision.
Passed the 31st August, the No Place No Pay and No Visa No Pay do not apply.
The student remains liable for the rent unless they find a replacement Tenant.

Students will be asked to provide their university offer or a screenshot of the university portal showing their name and enough information to confirm the student has completed the application process.↵↵For a small sample of students, Supplier might check with their university partners if they can confirm the offers and information are genuine.↵↵If the student doesn’t reply to any of the 3 attempts, Supplier will have a red flat to this booking.↵↵If Supplier still cannot get any contact from the student, Supplier will cancel the booking.

How to pay rent?

There are two ways to pay the apartment rent, online payment or bank wire transfer 1. For online payment, please log in to the Account of Unite Students, click the Payments page, enter the rent amount to be paid in the dialog box, click the Pay button, and enter the payment card information. If it is a British savings card, select the Debit card type (the corresponding Billing address needs to be changed to a British address), if it is a Chinese credit card, select the Credit card type (the billing address remains the domestic address) 2. For bank wire transfer, please log in to the Account of Unite Students and click Booking page, download the Bank Transfer Info file, communicate with the bank in advance, and bring the corresponding materials to the bank counter or self-service money transfer machine for remittance. In the remittance postscript, please fill in the personal reservation information (refer to the content required in the bank_tranfer_info file). The wire transfer does not arrive in real time , please be sure to wire transfer 1-2 weeks before the deadline to ensure that the funds arrive on time. Since the bank will charge a cross-border payment service fee, please pay the required rent + service fee when paying the fee to ensure that the full amount arrives.
