Located in the heart of Southampton's city centre, close to Southampton's seaside marina, a 10-minute walk from the shopping centre, two minutes walk from the Romanian & Eastern European Store and Lidl, the Southampton Solent University campus is just a 10-minute walk away, and the University of Southampton is just a quick bus ride away. Wherever you study, Austen House is within easy reach.

 

Features

Austen House hostel offers En-suite (private bathroom, shared kitchen) and Studio (shared bathroom and kitchen) room types for up to 356 people. The interiors of the flat rooms are equipped with basic amenities such as beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs, and so on. The rooms are entirely WiFi-covered and have enough storage space. The communal kitchen has basic amenities such as a dishwasher, fridge, microwave, etc. The flats also have a common study room, a relaxation area, a laundry room, etc. The rent includes all utilities such as water, electricity, gas, and property insurance.

 

Location and What's Hot?

Austen House is located in the heart of the city centre, within walking distance of the shopping mall, with a great choice of restaurants, food and fashionable high-street shops. Spend time with friends at Mobility Care and Perspective Store. You can also dine at George's Restaurant and Shanghai 1814 Restaurant next to Austen House. City parks Palmerston, Houndwell and Hoglands are all within walking distance of the flat. The seaside harbour, with its variety of mega cruise ships and up-and-coming shopping malls and cinemas, is about a 10-minute walk away. The city centre is also home to many historic buildings and a variety of museums and art galleries, making it a great place to spend some time.

 

Transport

Southampton Solent University is a 10-minute walk from Austen House flats. There is a U1A bus stop right outside the hostel. Buses take 22 minutes to Avenue Campus of the University of Southampton, 25-30 minutes to Highfield Campus, and only 50 minutes to Winchester on bluestar 1. There are several bus stops near the residence halls, so it is very convenient for daily travelling. Southampton Central railway station can be reached in about 11 minutes by bus from the halls of residence.

 

Security and Services

Austen House has a 24-hour electronic access control system and video surveillance system, which requires visitors to pass through multiple electronic gates to gain access. Austen House has a basic property insurance policy for students and a 24-hour emergency contact platform to facilitate students' daily lives.

If you are not successfully awarded a visa to travel and study, then we can help. Firstly, we may be able to transfer you to another one of our residences around the globe if you are going to study elsewhere. If you are not going to study elsewhere or we do not have accommodation available in your new city/town of study, we will release you from your tenancy agreement provided the following criteria are met:
1.You submit your request to cancel, in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property, within 3 days of your visa rejection letter: and
2.You provide the manager with a copy of your rejection letter from the embassy or visa office.
If your tenancy has commenced, you will remain liable for the rent payable under the tenancy agreement until receipt of the above.

If you are not successful in obtaining your place at your chosen university, then don’t worry, we can help. Firstly, we may be able to transfer you to another one of our residences if you are going to study elsewhere. If you are not going to study elsewhere or we do not have accommodation available in your new city/town of study, we will release you from your tenancy agreement provided the following criteria are met:
1.You submit your request to cancel, in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property, before 22nd August 2024; and
2.You provide the manager with a copy of your rejection letter from the University or UCAS.
Once we have your request, we will confirm receipt and refund your advance rent payment of £250.00, together with any other rent payments you may have made.

Cancellation Policy - England & Wales 2024/25
Unless the context otherwise requires, words and expressions defined in your Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement shall have the same meanings in this cancellation policy.
Bookings made prior to 1st May 2024
If you sign your tenancy agreement prior to 1st May 2024 and you have not collected the keys to your room, you may cancel your tenancy, by giving notice in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property, with no penalty up until 1st May 2024. Once we receive such a notice, we will confirm receipt, cancel your tenancy agreement and will refund your advance rent payment of £250.00, together with any other payments of rent you may have made.
Bookings made on or after 1st May 2024
If you sign your tenancy agreement on or after 1st May 2024, unless the tenancy agreement has already commenced and you have not collected the keys to your room, you may cancel your tenancy, by giving notice in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property, at any time within the period of fourteen (14) days of the date on which you sign your tenancy agreement (the “Cooling-Off Period”). Once we receive such a notice, we will confirm receipt, cancel your tenancy, and will refund your Advance Rent Payment of £250.00, together with any other payments of rent you may have made.
Bookings made for Semester 2 or 3 starting after the 1 January 2024
If you sign a tenancy agreement for a semester booking you may cancel your tenancy, by giving notice in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property, with no penalty up until 8 weeks before the start of your agreement. Once we receive such a notice, we will confirm receipt, cancel your tenancy, and will refund your advance rent payment of £250.00, together with any other payment of rent you may have made.
Unless the tenancy agreement has already commenced and if you have not collected your key, you may also cancel at any time within the period of fourteen (14) days of the date on which you sign your tenancy agreement (the "Cooling-off Period"). During the cancellation period you may cancel your tenancy, by giving notice in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property. Once we receive such a notice, we will confirm receipt, cancel your tenancy, and will refund your advance rent payment of £250.00, together with any other payment of rent you may have made.
Cancelling outside the Cooling-Off Period
Outside the cooling-off period, you may request to cancel your tenancy, by notice in writing or by e-mail to the manager at the property. However, you will remain liable for the rent payable under the tenancy agreement until a suitable replacement tenant has been found.
Cancelling as you do not receive your visa

When is the due date for rent payment?

Please enter the Student Portal interface of your apartment, click paymet to enter the interface, you can check the rent payment deadline on the contract, please pay the rent before the due date.

Is an installment purchase possible?

If you have a valid UK guarantor, you can choose to pay the rent in three installments, in September, January and April. If you do not have a valid UK guarantor, full rent must be paid 1 month before the start of the contract.

How to pay rent?

1. Online payment: Enter the Student Portal interface of your apartment, click payment to enter the payment interface, tick the items that need to be paid, and click pay to proceed to the payment interface to pay. Please note that the type of payment card must be one of the following four types: Mastercard/Visa/Visa Debit/Visa Electron, please ensure that there is sufficient credit, fill in the account information accurately, and the bank opens and supports this payment behavior. Payment cards do not need to be present in person. 2. Bank remittance: Please contact the apartment to obtain the receiving account information under the guidance of the consultant, and then complete the corresponding payment in the bank. Please note your name and ID to facilitate the identification of the apartment, and the wire transfer will take several working days to arrive, so you need to arrange payment in advance. 3. Payment by phone: call the apartment and provide account information to complete the payment. 4. On-site payment: Students who have arrived at the local area before the rent payment deadline can choose to pay on the spot at the front desk of the apartment.
