Student Accommodation near University of Southampton

Students at the University of Southampton have access to a wide range of purpose-built student accommodation designed to suit different study levels, budgets, and lifestyle needs. The main room types include en-suite rooms in shared flats, self-contained studio apartments with private kitchens, and standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Each option offers a different balance of privacy, cost, and social living, allowing students to choose an accommodation that best supports their academic needs at Southampton University.

En-suite Room

First-year undergraduates at the University of Southampton tend to choose en-suite rooms, particularly those within walking distance of Highfield Campus and the Students' Union (SUSU). The private bathroom provides personal space, while the shared kitchen and living area make it easier to meet people during Freshers Week and build a social network in those early months.

Non-En-suite Room

Non-en-suite rooms are a popular choice among second- and third-year undergraduates at the University of Southampton. With shared bathrooms and kitchens, they are usually the most affordable option near the university, making them ideal for students seeking lower rent and comfortable with a more traditional, communal living experience.

Studio Apartment

Studio apartments are the preferred choice for postgraduate students at the University of Southampton, particularly those on taught master's programmes in engineering, ocean sciences, or social sciences who need a quiet, self-contained space for dissertation work and independent research. With a private bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen all within one unit, studios remove the shared-living compromise entirely.

1-Bedroom Flat

1-bedroom flats are commonly chosen by postgraduate students at the University of Southampton who are living with a partner or prefer a more home-like environment than a studio provides. The defined separation between the bedroom and living area makes it easier to maintain a clear boundary between study and rest — something particularly valued by PhD researchers and students on longer programmes.

2-Bedroom Flat

2-bedroom flats suit pairs of University of Southampton students who want to live together without the full communal house experience. Each person has a private bedroom, and the shared living space is limited to just two people — a noticeably quieter dynamic than a typical six-person student house. This format is particularly popular among PhD researchers, international students on multi-year programmes, and final-year undergraduates looking for a settled base in Southampton.
