Cancellation Policy

No Visa

If, before or within 14 days of commencement of your tenancy agreement:

you are refused a visa to study in Australia by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA); and
within 72 hours of receiving a DHA refusal you provide a written cancellation request to Journal enclosing the DHA refusal,
you can cancel your tenancy agreement without penalty and any unused portion of the rent will be refunded.

No Place No Pay

No University Offer

If, before or within 14 days of commencement of your tenancy agreement:

you receive confirmation that you have not been accepted to study at a university in Melbourne; and
within 72 hours of receiving a university non-acceptance you provide a written cancellation request to Journal enclosing the university non-acceptance,
you can cancel your tenancy agreement without penalty and any unused portion of the rent will be refunded.

Details

General Cancellation Policy
Holding deposits reserve a room for 14 days (or longer if the parties agree) from receipt, to provide you with the opportunity to review and enter into a residential tenancy agreement.

Holding deposits are non-refundable (other than where you qualify for our First Year Student cancellation policy, as outlined below or if within 14 days (or longer if the parties agree) after receipt of a holding deposit, you do not enter into the residential tenancy agreement).

If a cancellation request is received after your tenancy agreement has been accepted (other than where you qualify for our First Year Student cancellation policy, as outlined above) you will be responsible for rent until a replacement tenant has been found.

Can I leave early and get the remainder of my rent back?

You are committed under the residential tenancy agreement to pay the full rent. We cannot refund your rent until you have found someone to replace your tenancy.

Cancellation Requests

For Central bookings, please send your cancellation request to Journal Central to discuss your cancellation.

For Uni Place bookings, please send your cancellation request to Journal Uni Place to discuss your cancellation.

Refund Process

Journal will process refunds due within 28 days of receipt of a valid cancellation request.

Please note that due to bonds being lodged with the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (Victoria), the time taken to receive your bond refund is not determined by Journal.

Our first year students'cancellation policy provides you with the flexibility to plan ahead but also to ensure that you are not financially out of pocket if things turn out differently.
